Before you start

Yes, a business can have two owners (or more), for example two partners. It's on the Team and Business plans, not Solo, and harulu turns it on for your business: contact us to ask. Until then, Make owner doesn't show. On Solo it shows as Not available on Solo.

Owners can do everything, including billing, the plan, pay and closing the business, so only make someone an owner if you trust them with all of it. You need to have signed in with your two-factor code, not just a trusted browser.

A new owner is someone already in your team: invite them as a manager or cleaner first, and make them an owner once they've joined. They keep their place on your plan, so the number of people you're using doesn't change.

Make someone in your team an owner

  1. On Team, open the manager or cleaner.
  2. Choose Make owner.
  3. Read what owners can do, then choose Make owner to confirm, or Not now.

Step down to manager

  1. Open the menu under your name and choose My profile.
  2. Choose Step down to manager and confirm. You only see this when there's another owner.

What happens next

We email the new owner, and the audit log shows who made them an owner. Owners always sign in with two-factor: if they haven't set it up yet, they're signed out and asked to set it up the next time they sign in on the web. Once there's another owner, you can step down or delete your own login.

One owner can't remove or demote another, so neither of you can lock the other out. To remove another owner, they step down first, or contact us.

If something goes wrong

  • “Sign in with your two-factor code first, then try again.”: sign out, sign in again and enter your code.
  • “Only a manager or cleaner who has joined your team can be made an owner.”: they need to accept their invitation first.
  • “You're the only owner. Make someone else an owner first.”: make someone an owner, then step down.
  • “A second owner isn't turned on for your business yet. Contact us to turn it on.”: contact us.
  • “A second owner isn't available on Solo. Change your plan to Team or Business first.”: see Plan and usage.

Who can do this

Only an owner. Each owner can step down themselves, but not another owner.
