Your own domain isn't working

When your domain still says Waiting for DNS, or the address without www doesn't open your website.

Before you start

What you see: Waiting for DNS under Your own domain, on Website, Domain. Why: we can't yet see the two records at the company where you registered the domain. DNS changes can take up to a day.

  1. Open Website, then Domain. Keep the TXT value and CNAME points to showing.
  2. Sign in where you registered the domain and open its DNS settings.
  3. Check the TXT record: its name is _rounds.www and its value matches the TXT value exactly, with no spaces.
  4. Check the CNAME record: its name is www and it points to the address in CNAME points to. Delete any other www record.
  5. On Cloudflare, set the www record to DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied.
  6. Wait up to a day. We check by ourselves and switch your domain on when it's right. The status changes to Working.

What happens next

Your website opens at your domain, and your free address sends visitors there.

If something goes wrong

  • The address without www doesn't work: turn on forwarding from yourbusiness.co.uk to https://www.yourbusiness.co.uk where you registered the domain.
  • “Enter a domain like www.yourbusiness.co.uk.”: check what you typed.
  • Still Waiting for DNS after a day: ask the company where you registered the domain to check the two records for you. Show them the Domain page.
