Your web address, your own domain, and adding harulu to another website

Before you start

To use your own domain, register it first with a domain company, and have the sign-in for its DNS settings.

Your free address

Website, then Domain. Choose Change address and type a new one, 3 to 46 letters, numbers or hyphens. If it's taken, we suggest others. Your old address keeps working and sends visitors to the new one.

Your own domain

Every plan can use its own domain, Solo included. Website, then Domain, shows these steps with your own code and address to copy.

1. Register a domain if you don't have one, with any domain company (for example 123 Reg, GoDaddy, IONOS, Namecheap or Cloudflare).
2. Under Your own domain, type the www version, like www.yourbusiness.co.uk, and choose Add domain. If you type it without www, we add the www version.
3. Sign in where you bought the domain and open its DNS settings. It may be called DNS, Manage DNS, DNS records or Zone editor.
4. Add a TXT record. Name: _rounds.www. Most companies add the rest of the domain for you. If yours wants the full name, use _rounds.www.yourbusiness.co.uk. Value: the code shown on the Domain page.
5. Add a CNAME record. Name: www, pointing to the address shown on the Domain page. If there's already a www record, change it or delete it first.
6. To make yourbusiness.co.uk without www work too, turn on forwarding (sometimes called a redirect) from it to https://www.yourbusiness.co.uk where you bought the domain.
7. On Cloudflare, set the www CNAME to DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied. Forwarding there is a Redirect Rule (Rules, then Redirect Rules), and the record for the domain without www must be Proxied for it to work.
8. Wait. It can take up to a day. The status changes from Waiting for DNS to Working.

What happens next

Once it works, your free address sends visitors and search engines to your domain. A Google Search Console panel then shows how to add your site to Google.

Adding harulu to a website you already have

Website, then Add to your website, has things to copy into Wix, WordPress, Squarespace or any other site:

• A customer login link and button, and a pay your bill link and button, for your customer portal.
• A QR code to download, for vans and leaflets.
• A quote form to put on your site. Enquiries arrive as leads. Turn on Show prices from your price list to show your prices as a guide.

If something goes wrong

• “That address is taken.”: try one of the suggestions.
• “Enter a domain like www.yourbusiness.co.uk.”: check what you typed.
• Still Waiting for DNS after a day: check both records match exactly, with no spaces, and that there's no other www record.

Who can do this

The owner, and managers with Can change the website and portal promo. Only the owner changes the free address.
