How harulu works: using the app without signal

What works offline in the phone app, how it sends, and what to do if something doesn't.

Not a window cleaner? Where this guide says round, you'll see route. It works the same way. You can change the word in Settings, then Scheduling.

The phone app keeps today and the next six days on your phone, so you can work a whole round with no signal.

What works without signal

  • Your visits for today and the next six days, with addresses, notes and job documents.
  • Starting and finishing visits, No access and Skip, notes, photos, forms, and cash payments.
  • Clocking in and out, breaks, mileage trips, time off requests and stock used.
  • Gate codes for your own visits today and the next three days. They hide again after 30 seconds.
  • Saved maps of each day's stops, downloaded on Wi-Fi unless you turn on Download maps on mobile data in You, Maps.

What needs signal

Card payments and new payment links, days further ahead, notifications, setting the on-call rota, urgent call-outs, changing your password, and most of owner mode, including searching the whole business. Search on your own visits works without signal, for today and the next six days, and so do your own on-call times. A payment link can be saved to send when you're back online: the customer gets it by email, or by text if there's no email. Once the phone has signal, the payment link screen can show its QR code too: it's the same link. If the link can't be sent, for example because the customer has no email or mobile number, the screen says why: show them the code instead, or take cash.

How it sends

Everything you do is saved on the phone first, in order, and sent as soon as there's signal. The cloud icon at the top shows All changes sent, Sending, a number waiting, Offline, or Didn't send. Open it, or Sync in Me when something is waiting, to see what's waiting and choose Sync now. Photos are tried 8 times, then wait for you to choose Try again. They're never deleted from the phone until they've sent.

If the app hasn't synced for over a day, it warns you that it might be out of date. Connect before you head out.

If something goes wrong

  • “Something didn't send”: tap it to see what needs sorting out, then choose Try again.
  • “Not accepted by the office”: the office turned down a change, for example because the visit was given to someone else. Tell the office, then tap Got it. The office sees it in Changes from phones, on Schedule.
  • Cash the office needs to record: it stays on the phone until the office sorts it out. Tell them today.
  • “It's already sent”: an Undo came too late. Ask the office to put the visit back.
  • “We couldn't open your saved work”: don't sign out. Contact your office: the work is kept on the phone.

Signing out with changes not sent asks first. Signing out anyway deletes them from the phone, so send them first.

What the app keeps on your phone is encrypted, and signing out removes it.
